With the G.O.A.T leaving Clemson, South Carolina many thought the Tigers would slide back behind the Noles and Cardinals. It was a given this season that Clemson would be behind the Crimson Tide who had their QB returning. Even though Clemson was returning many starters the thought process was losing their greatest player in school history (Deshaun Watson) they would fall behind. Now that Kelly Bryant has developed his passing skills and already mastered his rushing skills where do you put the Tigers? You put them back at #1, that is definitely where they belong, so here are the reasons why.
No other program currently has multiple wins over previous top 15 programs. Romping over Louisville and conservatively crafting there way past Auburn are the best two wins out of anyone yet. Not mentioning dismantling G5 member Kent State, which too many teams this year have been playing down to their opponents level. Everything Clemson could do to impress you this year so far, they have.
Passing the eye test
Unlike Jalen Hurts, Clemson has a quarterback that can make progressions in their passing game. Even though he is an excellent scrambler, he doesn’t lock on to just one receiver. Lets not mention that the Clemson offensive line is clicking on all cylinders, allowing for sophomore running back Tavien Feaster to develop.
The legend of Brent Venables continued to grow last night, as he shut down the defending Heisman trophy winner. The only reason Louisville got to 21, because they kept in Lamar Jackson for garbage time stats, scoring 14 in the fourth quarter, when the game had been decided. I do not envision too many teams having much success against this Clemson defense.
Bottom Line: This Clemson Tiger team who returned many starters from last year, majority of their coaching staff deserves to stay #1 until they lose.
What do you think? Do the Clemson Tigers deserve to be #1 over the Alabama Crimson Tide? Do you think the two are on another crash course for the end of the season??? Respond in the comments below!
