When you have been in a league of your own the past decade, ranking your schedule from most important to least important can be difficult. The fact that the past couple of seasons they always open up with a featured game, and the SEC is always so difficult you can see why it is a challenge. All twelve teams on Alabama’s schedule have them circled as the most talented team they will play, it’s a gurantee. While only one team can be Alabama’s number one most important game, there are multiple that have Alabama as their number one. So go ahead, hit that read more button, and find out which team is ranked where.
#1. LSU: The last six games against the Tigers, the Crimson Tide have been victorious. In the past decade, LSU has been the most consistent team to match-up physically against the Tide, especially their front seven. Alabama is number one in SEC Championship appearances for all SEC West teams, while LSU/Auburn is number two. So LSU is usually the team to compete for to get to Atlanta, so this is why the Tigers are number one in most important games.
It is also essential this season to not give the Ed Orgeron era any momentum this season, and for Nick Saban to keep LSU pinned down. Alabama cannot afford for LSU to have any recruiting edge in the southeast, by letting Ed Orgeron score a win in his first full season.
#2. Auburn: Lets be honest, the Crimson Tide has owned Auburn in football, and always will. Although it is always imperative to beat Auburn, not only for pride but the reason mentioned above. The Auburn Tigers are tied for second, for SEC Championship appearances on the SEC West side. Gus Malzahn has been stuck in mediocrity since the 2013 season, and it will be very important to keep them in this mediocrity.
#3. Arkansas: The past three seasons the Razorbacks have given Alabama problems. Last season they were one of three teams that actually scored 30 or more points against the Tide. Arkansas is notorious for starting slow and start picking up speed in the middle of the season. This game is definitely important for the Tide, Brett Bielema has been getting better and better.
#4. Tennessee: This game is only important because it is considered a rivalry game. Tennessee hasn’t given Alabama something to worry about for a while now, but keeping Tennessee down in this rivalry is definitely important. If it wasn’t a rivalry, Tennessee would be grouped with the teams below.
#t5. Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Ole Miss: These games are all equal because they are needed to make Atlanta, but they are also equal because they will be no threat to the Tide this season.
#t9. Fresno State, Colorado State, Mercer: These games are important because they would kill the season if the Tide lost.
#12. Florida State: That’s right the Florida State Seminoles are last on this list, and for good reason. Let me also say that this game is more important for Florida State than it is for Alabama. We all know Alabama is a serious contender, but the same cannot be said for FSU yet.
I definitely think that Alabama grinds Florida State out in the 4th quarter easily, but even if they lose it is not a big deal. If any program can get into the playoffs at one or two losses it is the Crimson Tide. Whatever happens this upcoming Saturday will not be the end for either team.
