Massive development happening in the southeastern corner of NAIA football this upcoming season. The Mega Conference, Mid South is going to be sporting 20 teams in three divisions this year. One of the divisions is going to be called the Sun Division. The Sun Division is going to sport five different teams from the talent rich state of Florida, and one team from the football historic state of Alabama. In the past, the Mid-South only sported two divisions, but the absorption of the old Sun Conference has made it into the mega conference.
The Teams (Location and First year of the program)
- Ave Maria (Ava Maria, FL 2011)
- Edward Waters (Jacksonville, FL 2001 modern)
- Faulkner University (Montgomery, AL 2007)
- Southeastern University (Lakeland, FL 2014)
- Warner University (Lake Wales, FL 2013)
- Webber International (Babson Park, FL 2006)
If you look at the graphic above you can also see a team in light powder blue. That is the Keiser University Seahawks and the projection is for them to be the seventh and final member for the Sun Division in the future. They will have one year to build something up, and get ready to compete. Signing over 40 players this off-season will definitely be a great help.
We all know the southeast is filled with talent rich athletes and that stems all the way down to the NAIA level. The NFL leaves no rock unturned, and especially in the Mid-South Conference. Look at Faulkner University, they have had multiple players make appearances at NFL Camps.
Bold Prediction: Two teams from the Sun Division will make the NAIA playoffs. Those two teams will be Faulkner University and Southeastern University. Future articles will break down the reasoning for this.
