Welcome to our newest reoccurring segment for the followup of what news happened in smaller divisions of college football. Here are gusgustheguru we cannot consider you a true college football fan if you do not have knowledge of all divisions. While Netflix did a great job of capturing the magic of JUCO, all the other ones do as well. If you do not have a team you support in the smaller divisions, our suggestions are for you to adopt one. In this segment we will just be recapping what major events happened in each division. Not the glory each division deserves, but as a one man team, I am definitely going to pay my homage. Make sure to bookmark the website so you can check this segment each week!
#1 James Madison 34 East Carolina 14
Tennessee State 17 Georgia State 10
Liberty 48 Baylor 45
Howard 43 UNLV 40
Two of the major upsets over FBS teams were considered the two biggest upsets according to the spread for a FCS team over a FBS. The MEAC who does not even participate in the FCS playoffs actually scored two wins over FBS opponents, maybe they should reconsider. Cam Newtons little brother, Caylin Newton looks like an absolute stud for the Howard Bison. #1 James Madison has the longest winning streak for FBS/FCS teams at 13 now, after dominating ECU.
University of Indianapolis 24 vs. #2 Grand Valley 20
#5 Texas A&M University Commerce 8 vs. #6 North Alabama 7
Shepherd University (WV) 54 vs. Notre Dame College 49
The biggest thing that happened this weekend was Division II powerhouse Grand Valley State lost to UofI who was not considered a playoff team this season. Not only did UofI upset a powerful conference foe but put them in great position to overtake them in the Great Lakes Conference this season! UNA who is preparing to move up a level soon, was disappointed as Texas A&M Commerce barely edged them out, in a defensive battle. Both teams should make the playoffs.
Illinois Wesleyan 17 vs. #3 Wisconsin Whitewater 10
St. Johns (NY) 98 vs. St. Scholastica 0
Gulliford (NC) 38 vs. Huntingdon (AL) 24
Mighty Wisconsin Whitewater who has been sharing DIII Championships with Mount-Union, lost to unexpectedly this weekend. They were plauged with offensive troubles, so they might have an off year. Gulliford knocks off conference opponent Huntingdon, and had well respected head coach Mike Turk off balance all day. Then we has the 98-0 game, which hopefully St. Scholastica can salvage something this season.
#21 Georgetown (KY) 40 vs. Faulkner (AL) 39 OT
#9 Baker (KS) 48 vs. Grandview (IA) 41
#4 Morningside (IA) 65 vs. #10 Tabor (KS) 15
#25 Southern Oregon 31 vs. #7 Eastern Oregon 21
The scariest team of the NAIA week two season was Morningside out of Iowa. The school has done well in recent years recruiting high school talent from IA and mixing it well with JUCO transfers. If they destroyed a top ten Tabor team like this, then good luck to the other mid-west NAIA programs that have to play them…
#11 Holmes Community College (MS) 49 vs. East Central Community College (MS) 14
Last Chance U will be more entertaining if you pay attention to the JUCO season when it happens in real time 🙂
